This is Anwar Khan, the Afghan dude back from Zaytuna days. I am sure you remember me. I don't even know if you will check your blog since, as the date shows, you haven't put entries for a long time. I would still take my chances. I apologize for using the comments section to get in touch with you. There was simply no other way. For some reason you didn't respond to the initial emails I sent to you after you departure from the States. your sudden departure and the subsequent disconnection with the us was kind of painful for us. I am sure you had reasons.
I hope you are doing well. I saw you today on Dawn News, I think in Multan, covering the lawyers' gathering. I was pleasantly surprised to see you doing so well, after all these years. So you did end up in journalism.
Just wanted to comment on one thing. In this very well written article of yours, you describe taqlid as "Blind following, of the four schools of Sunni law". Since you wrote this without quotations, i assumed this is what you really think taqlid is."blind following", its goes without saying, has negative and primitive conotations. It is kind of ironice because I remember having discussions of taqlid and following the madhaibs with you and you always defended it eloquently. Has there been a departure of some sort from you views back from Zaytuna days? I know one phrase doesn't serve as a verdict, but its a pretty louded one phrase.
Talking of ironies, I have ended up in Amman Jordan, right next to Sheikh Nuh's neighborhood!! I am not a mureed though. And guess what, I have also adapted the Shafi' school.
Habibi, if you have time from your busy career, and if you would like to get back in touch with me, contact me at anwar5mangal@yahoo.com
take care and good luck
